Interview: Jacob Jordan

Artist Name: Jacob Jordan
Latest Release: Call Me When You High

“A raw artist, who mixes elements of pop, hip hop, and alternative together, to make every song something you’ve never heard before. With an impeccable flow when rapping, or melodies when singing, I truly believe I am the future of music.”

Tell us all about this new track of yours!
Call Me When You High, is an upbeat song about jealousy, about missing someone who will never miss you, about being down , when somebody’s up, and how bitter it can make you. And the effects and consequences of money, and how I would trade all the money in the world to know I’d be loved til the day I die.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
The Kid Laroi, Roy Woods, Lil Story.

Where are you from and what is the music scene like?
I’m from a small town east of Ottawa, the music scene out here is small but ever growing , more and more kids are picking up notepads, and writing over beats and I love to see it. I’ve been making music for four years, and whenever I started it wasn’t seen as something someone around here would truly pursue, and I dealt with a lot of animosity for my confidence. But now it’s a lot more open, there’s a lot more support and a lot more love for the artists starting out. The artists I love to see win, and that I identify myself with from my area are artists like 347Aidan, who I feel makes music similar to mine, 404vincent who is the first local artist I looked up to, who’s now signed to a major record label. And Atoate who is a young up and comer who is very talented, and has a look, and the perspective to take him very far. Overall I’m so excited to see where our music scene takes us, I truly believe Ottawa could be with Toronto when it comes to music, and my goal is to get us there.

How have your life experiences influenced your music?
Everything I write about is something I’ve felt, I’ve really lost a lot pursuing music, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. So many people I thought were important to my future disappeared the minute I looked for support. And one day I will make them all regret it.

Which character in your favorite movie do you most identify with? Why?
In all honesty I’ve never been a huge movie person, I’ve never been one with an attention span to pay attention long enough to sit down and watch a movie so I can truthfully answer this question.
