Interview: BLOODCAT

by | Mar 3, 2021 | New Artist Interviews, New in Hip Hop

Artist Name: BLOODCAT

New Song/Release Title: GOOD SEX BAD PEOPLE

Tell us something about you:

I'm always trying to unlock new sounds. I was focused for awhile on trying to sound professional, and I think I got there. I was starting to blossom online and developed a loyal local following. But I dropped that, all of it, and I'm doing something different now. I figured out how to sound good. Great. Check that one off the list. Now I'm working on creating my own sound. I record, mix, and master everything I make with a $40 USB mic on a laptop running Adobe Audition. When I'm famous I'll get a better set-up, but if I can't sound good with this there's no point. I know so many people who have spent thousands on an amazing home studio but barely make music.

I'm from a small town in the midwest. The music scene here is mostly cover bands and middle school rock, plus a few underground rappers. The older ones eventually move to the nearest city and join the scene there. The younger ones focus on online streaming and social media.

I have seen and been through way too much for my age, or anyone's age. I've met every kind of bad person there is, and probably slept with most of them. That's what my new song is about. I used to think you lost a little bit of your soul every time you connected with somebody and then lost them, but now I think it's more like it warps part of your soul. And so do a lot of things. My parents were drug addicts and beat the shit out of me. I'm a drug addict too, but at least I don't beat the shit out of anybody. But seriously. I've watched people die. People I care about. It feels like everything that's happened to me has put my heart in a really dark place, and music is how I find my way out of it, not by offering some solution but by smiling back at the bad things and saying “Haha look what you made. You made this. You made me a better artist.”

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
