Interview: Afrocan

by | Apr 4, 2021 | New Artist Interviews, New Rap Music Artists

Artist Name: Afrocan

New Song/Release Title: Revelations

Tell us something about you that fans should know:

Combining innovative percussions and battery rhythms with soulful melodies and basslines is only a third of his claim to fame. Afrocan is an innovator in the world of message-based music. The producer also actively engages in philanthropy and volunteerism around the world. Afrocan’s mission is to educate the ignorant on worldly issues and promote love around the world through music and social service.

Where are you from and what’s the music scene like there?

George Yates III, professionally known as Afrocan, is a songwriter and record producer from Virginia Beach, VA. The music scene is pretty average here now -a -days, but there are some huge talents that have come from VA for sure, most notably Pharell Williams and Chad Hugo.

How have your life experiences influenced your music?

I had a very huge problem with self-hatred mostly attributed to the fact that I had been bullied to an extent that would be considered inhumane as a young boy. As I grew older I started to realize that there was nothing wrong with me and I began to embrace who I am as a person. My interest grew about finding out where I came from and reviving my lost heritage. After a lot of trial and era, I found that I was able to mix this comfortable R&B sound with rich ethnic, afro-centric percussion rhythms. I was very happy with this sound because through it I felt connected to what I had been longing for for a very long time.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Afrocan – ft. Burna Boy & Drake
