Interview: Cooperwaye

“Hello! My name is Cooper Waye and I make music to share my experience with other in efforts to help them heal and overcome struggles in life as we all do everyday!! Ever since I was little I had a crazy ear for music as it was a comfortable place for me wherever I would go. When I was younger I played a lot of sports including hockey, soccer, basketball, frisbee, etc. Playing these sports opened me up to have a tremendous amount of passion which I put into my music when I make it. I am also very outgoing and want to travel the world filling it with love and joy with my music ! :))”

Where are you from and what is the music scene like?
I am from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and the music scene out here is kinda quiet. The Arkells are a band that live in Hamilton, there are musical festivals in Hamilton like the blues fest, and super crawl which are for more local bands and musicians which I never tried to be a part because the covid pandemic happend when I started taking music seriosuly. My friend and producer Josh Rey and I have been making songs ever since and have gotten very invested in making music.

What is your greatest source of inspiration?
Iann Dior for this specific song (there is too many artists to list here), My family and everyone I love,

How have your life experiences influenced your music?
All of my life experiences have influenced my music including the darkest days and the most bright days. This song is about getting over a break up in a positive way along the lines of "This girl broke my heart and we didn't talk for a long time so I wanna call her but like if she says she want nothing to do with me imma be fine, kinda like some closure I guess". Anyways for this song I feel like many people my age can relate to it because a lot of us are fixated on relationships and the opposite gender so it can be healing for people who just went through a break up or missing a toxic ex". Anyways I was heart broken for a really long time and I realized that I had spent a long time grieving about one person and it didn't matter if she felt the same way about me anymore, it was time for me to get back to my fun and goofy self.
